"Being a lawyer is not merely a vocation. It is a public trust, and each of us has an obligation to give back to our communities." - Janet Reno
Steve Aita was born in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up in Tacoma, Washington (which is why he’s both a Red Sox fan and a Seahawks fan). He is a cum laude graduate of Rocky Mountain College in Montana and got his law degree from the Willamette University College of Law in Oregon.
Steve was first licensed to practice law in 1996 and is admitted to the bar in Washington State Courts, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, Idaho State Courts, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho. He started out working as an Associate Attorney at an established Seattle law firm, then went on to found another law firm with a few partners in Seattle, and since 2009 has practiced as a solo practitioner. In 2012, Steve moved our law firm from downtown Seattle to Gig Harbor — the “Maritime City” — where we have become an enthusiastic part of the historic waterfront district and our office enjoys views of the stunning harbor and marinas. Our law firm’s practice has included estate planning, probate, trust administration, personal injury, commercial and real estate transactions, escrow, and litigation.
During his career, Steve has also served as counsel for nearly 100 small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and churches, a municipal utility district, and even a couple rock & roll bands, assisting them with their business formation; governance; contract and lease negotiation, drafting, and review; employment issues; real estate and commercial transactions; and any related litigation.
In addition to being a member of the Washington and Idaho State Bars, Steve has also been a member of the Washington State Association for Justice, the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association, the King County Bar Association, the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association, the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation Professional Advisors Network, and the Tacoma Estate Planning Council.
Steve also commits a substantial amount of his time volunteering for pro bono legal services organizations and serving on charitable boards. He has served as a mentor with the Washington State Bar’s Lawyer-to-Lawyer program, volunteered as a pro bono attorney for the King County Bar Association’s Volunteer Attorneys for People with HIV/AIDS program, Washington Attorneys Assisting Community Organizations, and the Pierce County AIDS Foundation. He has also been a member of Washington Lawyers for the Arts and Lawyers Helping Hungry Children. For 13 years, Steve served on the Board of Directors of Judson Park Retirement Community, a nonprofit independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing care community in Des Moines, Washington, including a year as Vice Chair and six years as Chair of the Board. Steve is currently serving on the Board of Trustees of the Harbor History Museum in Gig Harbor.
